Garage Heaters and Shop Heaters
When the cold weather comes, it doesn't have to kick you out of your garage or shop because it's too cold. Garage heaters and shop heaters provide more than ample heating to allow you to work in your garage on your various hobbies all winter long.
Since most garages and shops aren't properly insulated a shop heater is really your best option to warm the area. But what exactly should you look for?
What to look for in a shop or garage heater?
The type fuel should be your first choice. Can you vent emissions outside or do you need an easier solution? If you can vent emissions from propane shop heaters or natural gas garage heaters, these make a great option since they warm the area around them and are easy to use.
If you can't vent emissions, stick with an electric heater. While they might not warm the air quite as well, they are better for spot heating areas since they use radiant heat. The advantage of an electric heater is that there is no need to worry about building in venting or worry if the vent isn't venting properly.
The second choice you have to make is what type of heater you need. Some prefer heaters that can be stowed away when not needed like a space heater or floor heater. Other prefer mounting heating units on the wall or ceiling.
The next consideration is the area you need to heat. Most residential shop or garage heaters are for smaller areas of around 500 feet. If you are trying to heat a large shop area or barn, you will have to go with a commercial heater instead. If you are in a large area and don't want to spend the money on a large heater, choose an electric radiant heater that will just heat the area it's pointed at.
There are a variety of choices and options for your garage and shop heating needs. Find the fuel you prefer using, whether you want a floor heater or ceiling mounted heater, and what size of area you need. Once those choices are made, you can more easily make the best choice for your garage.
